Key Background
As part of a large ramp-up of India’s domestic digital ecosystem, Adobe has opened access to over 1,500 new fonts localized across ten of India’s strongest languages. It is one of the measures Adobe has taken to expose users in India to more creative possibilities and facilitate inclusive content creation in the linguistic richness of India.
Fonts supported on it are Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Odia. Fonts can be downloaded on Adobe Fonts, Adobe Creative Cloud’s in-app subscription, through which Adobe’s bundle software users such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign users can access them easily.
The new fonts are the best of Indian type foundries and typographers like Ek Type, ITF (Indian Type Foundry), and some more. All care has been taken while ensuring usability and quality in trying to meet professional design needs and linguistic suitability. The fonts also have web licenses available, hence digital as well as print media compatibility.
The decision by Adobe to introduce a local font extension in India comes in the wake of increasing demand for local content in the country, with native language usage gaining popularity on the internet. With more than 500 million Indians opting for regional language over the internet, the decision provides brands, publishers, and ad agencies with an opportunity to engage better with the populace.
For Adobe, this launch is a tactical step toward making the user experience more accessible and user-friendly since Indian businesses desire to localise web presence increasingly. Through empowering creatives by making creativity accessible in local language, Adobe is also conserving and celebrating India’s multilingual heritage online.
Overall, this add-on will be sure to have its revolutionary effect on local content creation and dissemination to make millions of local language speakers able to communicate in their own script and style.
