Key Background
VinFast Auto India, the Indian operation of Vietnam’s electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast, has inaugurated its first showroom in India in the city of Surat in Gujarat. The opening has been the company’s formal retail entry into India’s EV market. The Surat showroom at Piplod with 3,000 sq. ft area is operated by Chandan Car—a veteran dealership partner. It features experience-based exhibitions, test drives, and complete after-sales facilities.
The showroom has VinFast’s future electric SUVs VF 6 and VF 7, both of which are positioned in the Indian configuration as right-hand drive vehicles. From July 15, pre-bookings were opened, and customers can pre-book their vehicle at a refundable cost of ₹21,000. The move is a step towards having a glitch-free and enhanced experience for the buyer as well as creating brand recall in the highly competitive EV space.
VinFast India strategy is being extended to retail as well. VinFast is establishing an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, with a ₹16,600 crore investment in early August 2025. The facility will be producing the vehicles locally, saving money and helping VinFast have a long-term presence in the Indian EV supply chain. It also supports the Make in India initiative and helps in creating a self-sustaining EV supply chain.
It has already tied up with 13 dealer groups and aims to have 35 showrooms in more than 27 Indian cities by the year 2025. VinFast has also tied up with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for charging infrastructure and maintenance of EVs and BatX Energies for battery recycling and circular economy solutions. VinFast’s move to India is symbolic of increased competitiveness and innovativeness in the electric vehicle segment.
